Satin stitch

🌸 Step 1: Get Started 🌸
Begin by securing your fabric in an embroidery hoop 🪡✨. Bring your needle up from the back of the fabric at the edge of the shape you want to fill with the satin stitch. In this image, we are filling a leaf shape with a vibrant blue thread 💙🍃. A good starting point for a symmetrical shape like a leaf is the center or one tip.

🌿 Step 2: Take the First Stitch 🌿
Take a straight stitch across the width of the shape by inserting the needle back down into the fabric on the opposite edge of the outline 🧵➡️. Ensure your thread is smooth and not twisted before pulling it taut. This first stitch establishes the direction and angle of all subsequent stitches ✨.

✨ Step 3: Continue Stitching Side-by-Side ✨
For the next stitch, bring the needle up from the back, very close to where the previous stitch started, and then insert it back down very close to where the previous stitch ended 🪡💫. The key to a smooth satin stitch is to place these long, straight stitches immediately adjacent to each other, so they cover the fabric completely and lie side-by-side with no gaps, as seen in the central blue leaf in the image 🌿💙.

Continue this process, working from one side of the shape to the other (or from the center out), carefully following the outline and maintaining a parallel and tight arrangement 🌟. For organic shapes, you might work one side of a center line first, and then the other, to maintain consistency. In this photo, the stitches are worked parallel to the central vein of the leaf 🍃. Once the area is filled, secure the thread on the back of the fabric 🧵✅.
