What is petit point embroidery?

A distinctive feature of petit point embroidery is the use of tiny, exact stitches to produce a fine, intricate design. Although these terms can also be used to describe other kinds of embroidery, it is also occasionally referred to as "tent stitch" or "needlepoint."

Petit point embroidery uses stitches that are applied to a ground made of a canvas or fabric with a very fine mesh, usually between 18 and 24 holes per inch. A smooth, even surface is produced by working the stitches in diagonal rows that span several canvas strands.

Small-scale designs are frequently created with petit point embroidery and applied to apparel, accessories, or home décor items. Although it takes a lot of effort and expertise, it can also be used to make larger-scale designs like tapestries or wall hangings.

Overall, petit point stitching is a lovely and complex type of needlework that needs persistence, accuracy, and focus on the small details.
