Palestrina Stitch

There is some stitch that is used mainly for borderline purposes. Palestine stitch is one of them with a lot of similar names. Other names of Palestine stitched are double knot, English knot, tied coral, twilling stitch, punto de Palestrina, Ponto de Palestrina, punto Palestrina, point de Palestrina, Palestrina stitch, punto Palestrina, etc. The Palestrina stitch originated in a village near Rome of Italy. After finishing sewing it forms an uneven knot.

Threads use

The stitch usually uses thick thread such as Pearle cotton or all 6 strands of a multi-strand flow. The thread's color may be varieties types. White or light-colored linen cloth uses blue thread and white or dark linen or dark-colored cloth uses white or natural-colored threads.

Process of Palestine stitch

Two types of Palestrina stitch can be seen. They are long-armed Palestrina stitch and long-ledged Palestrina stitch. If the side stitching of the thread is taken longer it is called long-armed Palestrina stitch. If the main stitching of the thread is taken longer, it is called a long-legged Palestrina stitch. The general process of Palestrina stitching are-

  • Bring the needle out through the base cloth. Insert the needle at some distance and bring it out from another point and pull the thread to the last point.

  • Enter the needle between the thread and cloth and pull it. The thread would be on the left side of the arm-like thread.

  • Now again enter the needle between the thread and cloth on the left side of the arm stitch and pull the thread.

  • The Palestrina stitch is formed. Repeat the process and form a line of Palestrina stitches.
